The ICT Profile

The information and communications technologies (ICT) sector of Greater Montreal is a source of pride for Montrealers. Often considered the video game capital of North America; holding three digital festivals and many specialized cultural installations; boasting a higher level of smartphone penetration and social media use than the rest of Canada: Montreal is a city that breathes digital.

The prestigious Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) recognized Greater Montreal among the 21 intelligent cities of 2014, and TOP 7 of 2016. The city claims over twenty smart initiatives, including having the most living labs in North America.

The ICT sector is a driving force behind the economy of Greater Montreal: over the last ten years, the sector has seen a GDP growth that is twice as fast as the economy as a whole. As a hub of technological excellence, the ICT Cluster of Greater Montreal represents:

  • More than 91,000 jobs in the metropolitan region (8% of the workforce)
  • 73% of the ICT jobs in Quebec
  • 5,000 companies
